Here are the choices I made for building this site.
The site runs on WP Engine personal plan. Earlier I had been using shared hosting from Hostgator. Besides its occasional outages, I couldn’t optimize the site’s performance beyond a point. I had tried Synthesis web hosting for a client before and wanted to try WPEngine next. I am happy with them so far but the pricing is bit costly when I am done with the discounted period. I might get the site hosted with Nodeki soon.
I have licenses for almost 10 premium theme clubs now. Initially, I went with TwentyTwelve for its simple look. This is the first default WordPress theme I liked. Also, I wanted to get myself familiar with WordPress’s prescribed way of theme design and see how it performs for SEO. But, it started looking boring and now I have chosed Education theme from StudioPress.
I am obsessed with having only very few essential plugins.
Akismet – No WP site can run without this. I hope to pay for it one day 🙂
WordPress SEO by Yoast – If you are using any other SEO plugin, you are doing it wrong.
Simple URLs – Beautifully simple plugin to mask affiliate URLs.
Google Analytics for WordPress – Simply because I am a Yoast fan. I trust him to know the best way for getting Google Analytics integrated.
Gravity Forms – The best form plugin ever.
You can see that there is no rocket science here. But, it is intentional. All along I have been tweaking my websites a lot but failed in producing regular content. So, I decided to keep the design simple, hosting hassle free and just focus on producing content. I am taking a blogging challenge this month. I am planning to post everyday and this is my 7th successful day 🙂
